Things To Do With Chalk Board Paint
I have been wanting to tackle this project for a long time. I found this awesome frame in a thrift store about 2 years ago and I never could find just the right picture for it.
Then I got an itch to buy some chalk board spray paint, what can I do with that? It says ANY surface, should I paint a whole wall? The refrigerator? The back door? The possibilities are endless.......
But for my first chalk board project, I kept it simple, and where did I put that old thrift store frame?
I found the paint at Home Depot for $ 4.95. You can also buy it in a larger can, but for my project, this is fine. FYI, this product must be bought in the store, you can't buy it on line.
First, I had to remove the ugly old painting (I sure hope that wasn't a rare, priceless Van Gogh!) easily done with my handy screwdriver.
Since the base backing board that was behind the old painting was pretty strong, I just decided to paint right on it.
Make sure you use the spray paint in a well ventilated area, preferably outside!
Hold the can about 12 " away from your surface and spray in even smooth strokes and avoid pooling or dripping paint. It's better to start with a lighter hand and go over it again later.
It says it needs to fully dry for at least 24 hours before you can write on it, but I think it was good to go in less than 10 hours, I get impatient!
I think it turned out super cute! Now, what else can I paint......

Need A Ride?
I'm all about supporting alternative methods of getting around town, especially when drinking is involved.
Omar Passons, a long time North Park resident, is getting ready to launch the Park-2-Park shuttle. The 36 passenger shuttle buses will take passengers through North Park, South Park, University Heights and Normal Heights every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Passengers can utilize the shuttle throughout its operating hours of 6 p.m. to midnight on Thursdays, and 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The cost will be a mere $5.
The shuttle, according to Passons, will not only generate more business for commercial enterprises, but help reduce traffic on local streets. Not just a ride, volunteers will be on hand to greet patrons and talk about the historical aspects of the neighborhoods, “to give them a feel for the communities.” “My service,” says Passons, “will show significant respect and deference to our local history and quirkiness and it will cater to a broad audience.”
They are going to try the program out starting April 22, so lets all get on the bus and support this local business!

We Have Grapes!!
About 1 week old........
We were told by our new landlords that our back fence will be covered with grapes in a couple of months. From the looks of it, we are already well on our way!
There are 3 old vines (variety unknown) that were planted over 30 years ago, and they say the grapes are incredibly delicious. But what I want to know is, how do you make wine out of grapes?
It's time for some research........

Time To Go To The Zoo!
I just renewed my San Diego Zoo annual membership. It's a perfect time of year to do so, we have daylight savings time starting in a couple weeks, and if you join right now, they extend the membership till the end of March, it's almost a whole month free!
I haven't been to the Zoo in a while, click here to see my last post and some great pics of some amazing animals.
With the wedding day rapidly approaching, what better way to get some exercise then walking at the Zoo? Beats the gym in my book any day, and you can support the animals at the same time!

Pizza Gourmet Express
You know how when you move into a new place and all your stuff is in boxes and the last thing you want to do is COOK anything? Most of you will agree that is a great time to order a pizza for delivery. Well, we were so impressed by Pizza Gourmet Express that we ordered pizza THREE nights in a row, and we keep going back.
Their traditional raised edge crust is perfect for the "The Works" pizza, and we discovered the herb thin crust is most excellent with just about everything. All of the ingredients are fresh and of quality. We haven't tried it yet, but we hear the duck confit pizza is truly amazing with basil pesto, slow roasted duck, goat cheese and figs, wow!
Another cool thing about Pizza Gourmet Express is that they deliver pizza's in the University Heights area by bicycle, I love seeing local businesses doing the green thing, every little bit helps.
If you happen to be in the area, stop by and pick up a pie. They are located right under the University Heights sign on Park Ave. across from Small Bar (another local favorite place!).

The National
I just have to plug one of my most favorite bands The National, not only because their music is AWESOME, but they are also coming to San Diego on May 23, 2010!!!
If you haven't seen them before now is the time, they don't tour very often. We caught them at Street Scene in 08 and it was one of the best shows I saw all year. This time they are playing at Spreckles Theater downtown, not my favorite venue in town, but at least it has cool ambiance. Should be a great show!
Tickets available through Ticketmaster.
